The Way

“I am the way and the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

I am not one who does well with someone giving me a place and telling me what street or intersection it is on. I either need someone to tell me the landmark that my destination is near, or I have to use GPS. Using the GPS is my go-to because not only does it tell me step by step how to get where I need to go, but it also alerts me if there is anything that will slow me down from getting to my destination.

In today’s Gospel Acclimation, we hear Jesus tell us that He is the way, the truth, and the life. I want to emphasize that He is the Way. He is the Way by which we have access to Heaven, He is the Way by which we are able to live an abundant life, and He is the Way that draws us into the divine life. When we try to navigate this life on our own, we can get lost and be confused as to where we are supposed to go. However, when we look to Jesus as the Way, we ensure that we will get to our destination, Heaven, the best way possible. We can also be confident that by following Jesus’ words and modeling His actions, we are better able to avoid things that will slow us down or distract us from getting to our destination. Today, may we allow ourselves to be led by the Lord, trusting that He will not give us bad directions.

How can I allow myself to be led by the Lord today?

Oh, Good Jesus, You are the Way. Lead me on this journey to Heaven. Amen.
