Waiting Patiently
"He waited still another seven days and then released the dove once more; and this time it did not come back." (Genesis 8:2)

I’m really struggling with this reflection today. I think it’s because patience stood out as a major theme in our readings—and, well, patience is not my strong suit. If you haven’t read them yet, here’s a quick breakdown:
In the first reading, Noah waits patiently for the floodwaters to recede while God restores the earth. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus heals a blind man—not all at once, but in stages—until his sight is fully restored. Both stories are powerful and full of hope. But they also leave me with one big question…
Why, God? Why do you so often work in stages? Why not just restore everything all at once?
Okay, please forgive my outburst. (Though, let’s be honest, I’m sure some of you have wondered the same thing.)
I do believe that God’s ways are best and that His timing is perfect—even when I don’t like it. Both of today’s readings serve as much-needed reminders of this sometimes frustrating truth. They also challenge me to trust in God’s promises, even when I don’t see immediate results.
Noah spent over a year on the ark, waiting for God’s timing, and in the end, the earth was restored. The blind man’s healing wasn’t instantaneous, but Jesus led him through the process, step by step. These stories remind me that healing and restoration are often gradual—and that I desperately need to grow in patience.
Ultimately, I’m learning (slowly, but surely) that every small step toward restoration is part of God’s perfect plan. Even when my patience wears thin, He is still at work. So, if you think of it, maybe send up a prayer for me to be a little more patient? I could definitely use it.
In what areas is God asking you to be more patient?
Thank you Lord for your Holy Word which offers encouragement and hope, help me to put these words into action in my own life. Amen.
