Do It Now, Not Later
“Then Joseph, arising from sleep, did just as the Angel of the Lord had instructed him, and he accepted her as his wife.”

In today’s Gospel reading for the Fourth Sunday of Advent, we learn that Joseph had planned to divorce Mary quietly after she had been found to be with child. Despite having a plan for how he was going to act in the situation, Joseph made the decision to immediately change his course of action when an angel revealed God’s will to him through a dream.
Joseph, who is described in today’s reading as a righteous man, wasted no time and showed no hesitancy in his choice to follow what was shown to be God’s desire in the situation. As followers of Christ, we should look to Joseph as a role model and maintain a disposition of holy zeal when it comes to doing what the Lord asks of us. Maybe God is asking you to go on that mission trip, or maybe He is simply asking you to say a kind word to your neighbor who needs encouragement. Perhaps He is even asking you to spend a few extra minutes in prayer today.
Whether what we are called to do is large or small, we should waste no time in acting on God’s will.
Do you act promptly in following God’s will?
Lord, give us the graces we need to make haste in following Your will in all things. Amen.
