The Truth of Christ

"You know me and also know where I am from. Yet I did not come on my own, but the one who sent me, whom you do not know, is true." (John 7:28)

As Jesus begins to teach in the temple, the Jews who are gathered there begin a discourse amongst themselves about whether or not this man is truly the Christ, as he claims himself to be.

Sometimes, we are caught up in the same pattern the Jews find themselves. Jesus is not who I expected him to be, so he cannot possible be the Savior we need. Christ is transcendent - even our wildest assumptions about the depths of his love and mercy still reduce the truth of his being.

This Gospel can challenge us to wash away the misunderstandings of Jesus Christ: true God and true man. Through him and with him, we explore the depths of his mystery to find the path to eternal life with the one who sent him.

What does the person of Jesus Christ reveal about God? What does this mean for me?

Lord, may I come to know You as You have revealed Yourself to the world. Help me to shed all false images of You. Amen.
