“I can’t believe it’s almost been a year,” said Father Christian Galvan, Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of the Rosary, in Land O’ Lakes. “This has been the fastest year of my life. I have never felt more myself than I have in this first year of priesthood, which is a tremendous grace of God. I feel his guidance and presence in my life as I experience the first year of priesthood.”

Father Galvan was ordained on May 20, 2023, at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. Since ordination, life has been “joyfully chaotic,” Father Galvan stated.

“No one day in the priesthood is the same, which is exactly what appealed to me when I first discerned this call. Each day is a mix of the expected and the unexpected alike. The first year is all about learning how to embrace each day as God’s gift and to be present as God calls me to be.”

Apart from the day-to-day responsibilities as a priest, Father Galvan has been able to share his journey through a new diocesan social media account called @WalkinginHisLight. The account gives followers an inside look at the daily life of a newly ordained priest.

“My hope for sharing my journey on social media is to allow many others to see my faith journey with all its highs and lows. I hope to share an authentic journey with our followers, which hopefully inspires more people to follow Christ and more people to say YES to His will for them. I also hope to inspire others to consider discerning a vocation to the priesthood or religious life,” said Father Galvan.

While sharing his first year as a priest on social media was a scary decision to make, he stated, “It has deepened my dependence on Jesus and what His will for me is. This journey has made me reflect on what truly matters to the Lord and less on what matters to me. This is important for anyone on social media because, without dependence on Jesus, we can be easily swayed or discouraged by reactions on social media.”
