Radical Trust
"Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me." (Luke 10:16)

Today's Gospel is preceded by the Lord appointing disciples to go and visit towns, asking them repent and bring the peace of the Lord upon their lives. Jesus' words at the end of the Gospel are sources of confidence for the disciples. Though they may be rejected and poor in their service in the name of the Lord, they can have hope that their work is aligned with the promise of eternal love of the Father.
We are called to be disciples of Christ. This might be a simple command, but it is not always easy. It is natural for us to desire love and affirmation, but as a disciple of Christ, the world will not fulfill this desire. On this feast day, let us look to the example of St. Francis of Assisi who retained great confidence in the authority given to him by God to proclaim the Gospel.
Through my actions, do I show radical trust in the Lord and His Gospel?
Lord, give me the grace to live totally dependent on you, trusting that as your disciple I will never be without hope. Amen.
