In the Present Moment

"There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said, 'Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?'" (Luke 10:25)

Our world is riddled with jadedness: “Been there, done that!” We yearn for something new, yet the prize eludes us. Wrapped in the repetitive cycle of our daily lives--waking in the morning and going to bed at night--lies the Eternal Present, the extraordinary hidden in the ordinary. How often do we miss it because it is concealed within routine? How often do we escape the present moment, looking for something more exciting, something different, only to realize we didn’t find what we were seeking?

Our lives are made up of days that can only be lived one at a time. Our days are ordinary, familiar, and repetitive. Learning to find God present in every moment, so that we may follow Him and remain with Him is the challenge of our lives.

Hidden in the ordinary, familiar, and repetitive prayers of the Holy Rosary lie the mysteries of the life of Jesus. “Rediscover the Rosary in the light of Scripture, in harmony with the Liturgy, and in the context of your daily lives.” – (St. Pope John Paul II, Rosarium Virginis Mariae). This is how we learn from Mary to find Jesus in our lives.

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad” (Psalm 118:24).

What can I do today to be more present to God and to those around me?

"The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. Amen." (cf. Luke 1:49)
