Pointing to Christ
"John was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, 'Behold, the Lamb of God.'” (John 1:35-36)

During the season of Advent, we heard about John the Baptist frequently. Now, in the joyous season of Christmas, John continues to be an important character. In today’s Gospel, we see John in his element: pointing to Jesus.
Before Christ began his public ministry, John had a following of his own. He was well known and renowned, to the point where people began to wonder whether he might be the long awaited Messiah. Despite the attention surrounding his teaching, John never ceased to point the people to our Lord. Today’s Gospel is no exception.
There is so much to learn from the words and actions of St. John the Baptist. Like him, let us be more willing to shed any personal accolades and instead, point unceasingly to our Lord, Jesus.
Where in my life can I decrease so Christ might increase?
Lord, may my life continuously point to you. Amen.
