Nourish Our Soul
"‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’" (Luke 21:8)
"‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’" (Luke 21:8)
Today’s first reading and psalm of judgement lead us into the Gospel where Jesus is warning us to not be deceived by the world and to remain focused on Him. It is by our baptism we are cut down with the sickle and grafted into God’s merciful love.
The Eucharist is our saving grace. It is Jesus who keeps us in the light of the Kingdom of Heaven. The Sacraments keep us striving for good with the self-control to choose forgiveness and love. We cut down the concupiscence of our sinful nature when we go to the Lord desiring His presence. It is by Communion we are made worthy and ascend to the spiritual while journeying this life.
We are gifted with the Liturgical Year to renew our faith, to prepare and to begin again. We are brought to new birth, cut down and risen each time we opt for prayer.
Without Holy Communion it is impossible to advance in the spiritual life. As material bread serves to nourish, to strengthen, to make our bodies grow, so Communion, the bread of heaven, must nourish our soul to sustain it, strengthen it, make it live of Jesus; the more we expend our energy, the more we must receive Communion. (Saint Peter Julian Eymard, 1858)
Is there a dream in your heart you are hoping Jesus will find?
Jesus, help us to keep you the center our lives so all will come forth from His love for us. Amen.
