Love Will Fulfill
"But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:19)
"But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:19)
The central message of today's Gospel is God's promise that love will fulfill the law. The moral teachings we uphold as Catholics for social and family life are integral for the fibers of life to be blessed in the highest fashion humanity can uphold. Yet still, Jesus Christ, our Savior, is teaching us more. Jesus goes deep into the recesses of the heart and reminds us that love is everlasting. Jesus is asking us to follow the commandments, the laws given to us through the prophets.
Jesus is the perfect one who gave us a pathway to follow down the Via Dolorosa to the Resurrection of what the redeeming power of LOVE can accomplish to fulfill the law in its perfection.
I had to remind myself of the Eucharist I received in the morning when later that day a lady commented on social teaching opposing a life issue. Although internally, my first reaction was not charitable, by the grace of God, I thought, "Dear Jesus this is Lent, help me". God is so good to have guided me to prayer. I began to offer a Hail Mary for this person to be enlightened to the sacredness of all life. I believe God will bless this person. The care of other people, and their souls, is entrusted to us as disciples of Christ.
"The victor is crowned in heaven." -Saint Peter Julian Eymard
Lord, continue to show us that this is how we get to heaven. Amen.
