On a Journey

"After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother." (Matthew 2:9-11)

The protagonist in many stories has to travel on a journey to reach their goal. Frodo must travel to Mordor to destroy the ring. Luke must travel to a planet to get trained by Yoda in the ways of the force. Mario must travel to Bowser’s castle to save Peach.

In these instances, each character faces different adversities to grow as a person and to be successful in obtaining their goal. The magi and every one of us are like these protagonists. We are all on our own journey to find Jesus, and though we follow our faith to attain the goal to be with our Lord, we traverse different paths and haven’t a clue exactly in what state we will end up once we get to our destination. All we know is that we have set our compass towards Jesus, and the experiences we live along the way is part of the journey.

So let’s end this Christmas season like the magi, who tirelessly went forth towards their goal to meet Jesus who awaits us at the end.

What sort of journey have I been taking to reach Jesus, and where do I see myself going in the future to continue my path to him?

Lord, grant us steadfastness and courage on our journey to You. Let us never falter, and grant us the wisdom to make good decision as we grow closer to You. Amen.
