Healing and Support Provided to Survivors of Abuse at Upcoming Mass

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Abuse in all forms is a traumatic experience that causes devastation on many levels, requiring healing to gain true freedom.

The Catholic Church works to help abuse survivors find healing through prayer, conversation, and a relationship with Jesus, the Divine Healer.

On Saturday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m., Bishop Gregory Parkes will offer a Healing Mass for Survivors of Abuse at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle for those who have been harmed by abuse as well as their loved ones. Faith and religion can play a vital role in the healing process,  providing comfort, strength, and support for those who have experienced abuse.

During the Mass, prayers will be offered for all victims of abuse– whether physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, or spiritual. Additional prayers will be offered for victims who have committed suicide as a result of abuse the individual experienced, as well as for the protection of all vulnerable people. Those harmed by abuse are encouraged to call upon Jesus the Good Shepherd for comfort, peace, and healing.

Opportunities for prayer and private conversation with a priest or with the diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator, Mr. John Lambert, L.C.S.W., will be available following the Mass.

This Mass is open to all survivors of abuse, their loved ones, and all who would like to show support for abuse victims. All are welcome, including those of different faith backgrounds or no faith background.
