Though long before she was helping families establish charitable gifts and endowments, her heart for generosity was already taking shape in a third-grade classroom.

"I believe I've technically been a fundraiser since third grade," Doctor Keenan said with a smile.

As a student at St. Helena's Catholic School in the early 1970s, she happily participated in an annual campaign supporting children in developing countries. Students were expected to fill one collection booklet with coins each year, but Maggie often filled four or five.

"That experience developed my passion and drive to help others less fortunate," she said. "It is deeply rooted in the Corporal Works of Mercy to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead."

That early lesson in generosity became the foundation of a lifelong vocation.

Today, Doctor Keenan views her work with the Catholic Foundation not simply as fundraising but as a personal ministry.

"For 30 years, I've had the privilege of helping families create meaningful legacies that support faith, education, service, and hope for future generations. It's deeply fulfilling to know that the work I do today can strengthen communities and change lives long after we are gone."

Although she has been with the Diocese of Saint Petersburg for only a few months, Doctor Keenan has eagerly embraced the Foundation's mission of connecting generous Catholics with the ministries that bring Christ's love to others.

As Executive Director, she works with donors to create lasting support for parishes, Catholic schools, seminarians, outreach ministries, and charitable programs throughout the Diocese. Through endowments, stewardship, and legacy giving, the Foundation helps ensure these ministries can continue serving the needs of present initiatives and supporting future generations.

"The Foundation strengthens the Diocese by providing sustainable financial support for ministries that serve people across our community," Doctor Keenan explained. "Ultimately, my role is about building trust, fostering faithful stewardship, and helping align the generosity of our Catholic community with the mission of the Church so that lives are transformed through faith, service, and compassion."

For Doctor Keenan, every gift tells an important story. Whether someone is supporting seminarians, helping families in crisis, strengthening Catholic education, or caring for the poor and elderly, each act of generosity becomes an extension of the donor's faith.

"It allows people to leave a legacy that reflects their values and strengthens the Catholic community long after their lifetime," she said.

Through her leadership at the Catholic Foundation, Doctor Keenan is helping ensure that today's generosity becomes tomorrow's ministry by strengthening the Church and leaving a legacy of faith that will bless generations to come.
