He is Our Refuge
“I knew their plot because the LORD informed me; at that time you, O LORD, showed me their doings." (Jeremiah 11:18)

One would think the message of “be kind to others” was what we all strive for, but the world isn’t perfect and we find ourselves facing some who go out of their way to harm us or get in our ways.
Take I-4 traffic, for example. It is a road that truly tests our patience, but time and again there will be people who violate the laws of traffic just to get ahead of others by a car. Perhaps they aren’t even caring how this affects others, only about how it’ll put themselves ahead. And in our Christian goodness, we politely refrain (on a good day) from laying into that horn.
Our goal is to get to our destination safely, and these people who weave through traffic, cut off others, or tailgate to bully someone to move into another lane are subjecting us to a form of danger, testing the limits of our safety to meet their personal needs. We know these types of people are out there, but we never know when they’ll show up or to what extent that person will test you.
But what we do have is our safety in God. He will steer us clear of danger, or be with us in our times of trouble should an accident occur. We know of the dangers but it can’t keep us from driving. Let’s entrust ourselves to God and in his refuge.
How do you seek God’s refuge in times of struggle?
Lord, help us be courageous to entrust ourselves to your refuge. Amen.
