Having Trust Despite Fear
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love.”
(1 John 4:18)

I remember going to Puerto Rico to visit family when I was younger. We decided to go to a waterfall in El Yunque. As we were swimming, my cousins invited me to climb the water fall and jump into the pool. I was terrified. I kept looking to my oldest cousin for reassurance as we climbed up to the top. My cousin went first. Then it was my turn, I almost backed out, but he yelled “I am right here, jump!”. So, I jumped! I was able to jump because of the trust I had in my cousin. But that trust came from the love and relationship I have with my cousin. I knew him, he knew me, and he cared for me.
How much more does the Lord know us, care for us, and love us? We do not have to be afraid of doing what He asks of us or to follow Him. When the “what ifs?” and fears come flowing out and it stops us from having courage we need to remember the Lords absolute love for us. In remembering His love for us, we remember that it is a caring love, and love that drives out fear and allows us to be courageous! We must get to know Him, love Him, and trust in Him.
Where is there fear in my heart and in my life? What areas do I need to surrender to the Lord to better trust Him?
Jesus, help me to know you better so that I may trust you with my whole heart. May your love drive out fear from my heart. Amen.
