Growing up as the youngest child, I often felt that life was not fair. It was hard to accept that my older siblings had more freedom, more knowledge, and more experience than me, not to mention more height. (Although I had a growth spurt in fifth grade and that changed).

Our natural inclination is to compare ourselves to others and then see where we rank.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus shows us the path to humility. He says, “the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest."

That should be comforting words to anyone who has ever felt rejected, insignificant, or ignored.

Jesus sees you. He loves you.

Does Jesus challenge you to rethink your values?

Jesus, help me to avoid comparing myself to others and help me to see myself the way you see me. Amen.
