In preparation for my most recent confession, I did an examination of conscience and wrote down my sins in a note-taking app. When I finished my confession, I deleted the note and watched as the sins I had written disappeared. It was then that the words from the first reading echoed in my mind: "I will create a new heaven and a new earth; the former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind."

God, in His infinite love, forgives and forgets our sins, no matter how great they may be, when we repent with all our heart and seek to enter His kingdom. He, who can create a new heaven and a new earth, can also create a new heart within us. What a message of hope this reading brings. God promises to fill us with joy and everlasting gladness. My heart is filled with jubilation as I feel God's love and mercy within me.

Blessed be God, for giving us the joy of forgiveness. In this jubilee year, when our bishop calls us to conversion, living the Gospel boldly, and our Pope opens the doors of hope to us, let us allow the Holy Spirit to guide us toward that new heaven and new earth.

Am I willing to let go of my past and open my heart to God's forgiveness?

Lord, open my heart to receive your forgiveness and renew me in your love. Amen.
