Faithfully Departed
"For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life, and I shall raise Him on the last day.” (John 6:40)

On this Feast of All Souls' Day, we remember and honor all those who have faithfully departed. The Church places a focus on offering prayers and indulgences for those in Purgatory, as well as for our own sins. Our indulgences and prayers are intended to assist Christ in His ministry to all souls, both those who have passed and those alive today.
However, as seen in the gospel above, this day is not only one of prayer and reflection but also of celebration. The faithful departed will see the Son in heaven and will one day rise to be with us again. Just as we pray for those who have died, they will also joyfully intercede for us in the presence of God.
As we approach a month after the two hurricanes that devastated our community, let us pray especially for the souls of the victims, as well as for their living families and friends. Let us also remember our blessings and celebrate the triumphant saints who continue Christ's mission in heaven.
Do I remember to call upon the faithful departed to intercede for me in prayer?
May eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
