Examples of Sanctity
“After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9)

As a kid, I hated that this was another day we were forced to go to Mass, but as I’ve grown up and grown in my faith, the more it’s become one of my favorite days in the Church.
Today is great to focus on the countless souls who are interceding for us and to also take a deeper look at our own path to sainthood. We have countless people in heaven praying and willing to further intercede if we ask. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t call upon their intercession nearly enough. There is a Saint for every situation and for every type of person, desiring to help lead us to Christ. Call upon them. Ask for their help in making you the holiest you can be.
This is also a time to examine where we are at on our own journey to sanctity. As St. Josemaría Escrivá said “A saint is a sinner that keeps trying.” If we are striving for heaven, we are doing our job. It can be easy to see the lives of the Saints and comparatively how we aren’t curing the sick, praying for hours on end, or any number of ways we aren’t exactly like them. The Saints are examples, not specific expectations.
God is calling you to live the life only you can live and sanctify you in that.
I’ll leave you with a portion of a song I love: “When you hung upon the cross looking at me, you didn’t die so I would try to be somebody else. You died so I could be the saint that is just me.”
Who is a Saint you want to seek the intercession of more frequently? How can you strive to live your life with holiness?
Lord, please help me to strive for holiness like all the Saints before me and to see them as examples to lead me closer to you. Amen.
