Enthusiastic Faith
“I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold,
I will spit you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:16)
“I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold,
I will spit you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:16)
Revelation 3:15-16 is one of my favorites in scripture. The imagery of being spit out when people are “lukewarm” in their faith is powerful and obvious. It can be easy to slip into a “meh” mentality with our beliefs about God and our faith. There are many who believe in God, but don’t give much thought to him.
These words from Revelation share God’s response to that. He says, “I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”
This verse encourages us to really care about what we believe and to avoid just going through the motions. If we have faith, God wants us to be excited about it, not just pretend. This message reminds us to think about what we truly believe and try our best to be honest with ourselves and with God when we have doubts and questions.
What areas of your faith are you becoming lukewarm?
Dear Heavenly Father, help me to never take my gift of Faith for granted. Help me to always excercise my faith, and to share it with those around me. Amen.
