Cultivating Patience

“Wait for the Lord with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord.” (Psalms 27:14)

Teaching elementary students how to be patient is no easy task. There are times when I will have a group of kids vying for my attention, asking for things before class even starts.

During these moments, the Lord calls me to grow in patience instead of getting overwhelmed. Instead of seeing it as a disturbance to getting my to-do list done, I remind myself that it is an invitation to not only hear what they need but also show them that I see and love them. It reminds me that my main mission as their teacher is to bring Christ to them and to meet them where they are at.

God does this perfectly for His children. He wants to hear about our wants and needs. He desires to take care of us, even if He asks us to wait instead of fixing it right away.

If the Lord calls us to be patient, we need to trust that there is a purpose for it. We must wait with confidence and courage, knowing that He will bring us to new life and provide whatever we need.

And in reality, what we need most is Jesus. The longing in our wait reminds us that we will not be fully satisfied until we join Him in Heaven.

Let us fully dive into this season of Advent and thank the Lord for the longing in our hearts as we await His arrival.

What does waiting on the Lord look like in my life, and how can I cultivate trust and patience while remaining active in faith during seasons of waiting?

Gracious Father, you know what is best for us. Please help us to trust more in your goodness and your timing. Amen.
