Calling Us Deeper
"I, the Lord, your God, teach you what is for your good, and lead you on the way you should go." (Isaiah 48:17)

I gave up on my Advent devotional. And then I felt really guilty about it.
The whole point of a devotional is to grow in your faith, and sometimes that growth is difficult or uncomfortable. But the devotional I was trying to pray with just didn't feel right. Regardless, I pushed through for the first few days because it felt like that's what I was supposed to do.
When I finally took it to prayer, the Lord showed me something I didn't expect. He didn't tell me to just power through and do what everyone else is doing. Instead, He called me back to my typical night prayer, which is short and easy, and invited me to meditate on it longer. He invited me to a deeper place of intimacy and intentionality. It was so simple and yet was so much more fruitful.
He will show you what is for your good, even if it's different than what you expect. What is fruitful for your brother or sister in Christ might not be as impactful for you, and that is okay. You may feel like Holy Spirit is leading you off the main path, but know that He will lead you on the way you should go.
Is there a part of my prayer life where God is trying to lead me deeper?
Lord, thank you for your guidance through our daily lives. Help us to be attentive to your voice today. Amen.
