Witness at Work: Behind the Mission with Jorge Montenegro

Meet Jorge Montenegro, the new Diocesan Financial Officer of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg.

Jorge Montenegro has been serving the Catholic Church in a professional capacity for the past 16 years. As the new Diocesan Financial Officer for the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, he is beginning a new chapter in that service, bringing his experience in financial administration and his commitment to the Church to our community.

Jorge was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica. Growing up, he developed a strong appreciation for faith, family and service, values that continue to shape his life today.

Throughout his career, Jorge has worked in external auditing, internal auditing, and financial administration. His professional experience has taken him to dioceses across the country, including 10 years with the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas, and six years with the Diocese of San Bernardino, California.

Over the years, his work has allowed him to put his financial knowledge to use in service of the Church. While much of his work takes place behind the scenes, financial stewardship plays an important role in supporting the numerous parishes, ministries, and other operations that make the Church's mission possible.

For Jorge, the opportunity to continue that work in a new diocese is something he does not take for granted. He shared that he feels privileged and honored to be part of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, where he looks forward to continuing his service with gratitude, faith, and dedication.

Aside from work, Jorge enjoys spending time with his wife, Patricia, and his son, Santiago. He is also an international soccer super fan. Every four years, he looks forward to the FIFA World Cup, cheering for both Brazil and his native Costa Rica. His enthusiasm for the sport is one of the ways he stays connected to his roots while enjoying the excitement of international competition.

As he settles into his new position, Jorge brings with him not only years of experience in diocesan finance but also a longstanding connection to the Church and its mission.

The Diocese of Saint Petersburg is pleased to welcome Jorge and his family to the diocesan community as he begins this next chapter of service.
