The Catholic Church and many other churches and faith traditions are united in their efforts to defeat Amendment 4, known as the “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion,” which will be on the November 2024 ballot. A group will gather to pray about this issue, and community members are invited to join in prayer.
Opponents of Amendment 4 have stated that it is a misleading proposal that would allow late-term abortions, eliminate requirements for parental consent for a minor child to have an abortion, and remove doctors from the decision-making process.
Dr. Armando Chavarria, Executive Director for Missionary Discipleship for the Diocese of St. Petersburg stated, "It's an opportunity for us to come together as a community and to bring awareness to the importance of this issue."
Catholics and other faith traditions believe that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God, and the dignity bestowed on them by the Creator cannot be extinguished. They believe that all persons, from conception until natural death, possess inalienable dignity that points to their origin as sons and daughters of God.
