Saint Leo Collaborates with the Vatican on International Event

September 27, 2023 | Saint Leo University’s Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies will be one of the organizers of an international conference to be held in Rome October 9-11, 2023, at the Pontifical Gregorian University.

“The New Documents from the Pontificate of Pope Pius XII and their Meaning for Jewish-Christian Relations” is the theme of the conference. Dr. Matthew Tapie and Rabbi David Maayan, director and assistant director of Saint Leo University’s Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies will give presentations at the Conference, and they are working with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Vatican, and other groups to plan it.

“This conference will bring together historians and theologians, Christians and Jews, studying together to further both historical knowledge and Jewish-Christian relations,” according to a press release from the Press Office of the Holy See.

In March of 2020, Pope Francis opened archival documents pertaining to the Pontificate of Pope Pius XII. This conference will focus on what these documents reveal about historical and theological aspects of the Vatican during the Holocaust as well as Jewish-Christian relations.
