Sacred Heart’s Bikes from the Heart to Host Second Annual Bike Sale

On Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart’s North Campus (3515 N Florida Avenue), refurbished bikes for all ages and stages will be available via a donation to the ministry.
BFTH is a volunteer program founded in 2023 by Sacred Heart parishioners Tim Eves and Tom Henry that operates out of the convent on the church’s former school property (Sacred Heart Academy). Used bicycles and parts are donated to BFTH by individuals, parishioners of Sacred Heart and other area churches, apartment and condominium complexes, and partners like WellBuilt Bikes or local law enforcement. Those bikes are then refurbished into working order to be given to recipients across Tampa Bay that are struggling with access to reliable transportation. The ministry has grown to employ more than a dozen regular volunteers and refurbishes nearly 1,000 bicycles annually. BFTH is the 2024 winner of the Downtown Collaboration Award from the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s Urban Excellence Awards, and has been funded in part by the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of St. Petersburg’s Community Impact Grant.
The average cost to refurbish and distribute each bicycle is estimated to be $25. Last year’s bike sale resulted in nearly $6,000 in donations, more than 20% of the funds needed to continue operations at their current scale. Bikes for children and adults will be available, with suggested donations at four levels ($25, $50, $75, $100) based on condition and style. All proceeds will be directed to support the ministry.

WHERE: Sacred Heart North Campus (3515 N Florida Avenue) | Enter the campus through the main parking lot (second gate when traveling north on Florida Avenue). | The sale will be in front of the convent building (first building on your right-hand side after entering the campus parking lot).
