Protocols for Safety Continue in Catholic Churches

As we continue to learn more about the Delta variant of the Coronavirus, let us demonstrate charity for the people around us and do what we can for the health and welfare of all.

On May 22, 2021, updated guidelines were announced by Bishop Gregory Parkes for the prevention of COVID-19. These guidelines are still in place. This guidance includes in part:

Parishes are encouraged to comply with the local government’s guidance on face coverings. Since the use of face coverings is encouraged to prevent community spread of COVID-19 (per CDC Guidelines), parishioners should wear either a mask or a face shield when entering and exiting the church and when processing to and from Communion. Please check with your parish for specific health and safety protocols. Adaptations may be made based on local considerations and the pastoral needs of parishioners.

The bishop has written a letter with a list of circumstances that would necessitate a particular dispensation from the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation, which is available in English and Spanish. This dispensation applies to those who have significant and reasonable fear or anxiety of becoming ill by being at Mass.
