When a survivor experiences healing, they gain true freedom. Faith and religion can play a vital role in the healing process through the comfort, strength, and support of both the Lord and the faithful members of the Church. The Catholic Church works to help abuse survivors find healing through prayer, conversation, and a relationship with Jesus. Christ is the Divine Healer and the Good Shepherd who desires to heal, comfort, and grant peace.

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, Bishop Gregory Parkes will offer a Healing Mass for Survivors of Abuse. This special Mass offers an opportunity for abuse survivors to bring their experiences to the Lord as well as an opportunity for members of the community to show support for those who have experienced abuse.

During the Mass, prayers are offered for victims of abuse in any form: physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, or spiritual. Additional prayers will be offered for victims who have committed suicide as a result of the effects of the abuse they experienced as well as for the protection of all who are vulnerable.

Opportunities for prayer and private conversation with a priest or with the diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator, Mr. John Lambert, L.C.S.W., are available following the Mass.

This Mass is open to all survivors of abuse, their loved ones, and anyone who would like to show their support for abuse victims. All are welcome, including those of different faiths or no faith background.
