Pray for An Increase in Vocations

Each year on the fourth Sunday of Easter, the Church celebrates World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
As Catholics, we believe that God has a unique plan for each person. He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood or religious life, and others to consecrated life. Recognizing this call and responding with obedience and joy is an important undertaking in the life of a Catholic.
Responding to God’s call requires courage, but it also is a wonderful invitation from the Lord, who calls each person by name into a deeper relationship with Him.
As Pope St. John Paul II said during his papacy, “Jesus has a specific task in life for each and every one of us. Each one of us is hand-picked, called by name by Jesus! There is no one among us who does not have a divine vocation! Some are called audibly by God, but the usual kind of call is internal, through the inner working of the Spirit.”
On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations, we ask the Lord for an abundance of vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and consecrated life. We also support those who are discerning and remember to pray for them.
Please join us in praying our vocations prayer:
God our Father,
You made each of us to use our gifts in the Body of Christ.
We ask that You inspire young people whom You call
to the priesthood and consecrated life
to courageously follow Your will.
Send workers into Your great harvest so that
the Gospel is preached,
the poor are served with love,
the suffering are comforted,
and Your people are strengthened by the sacraments.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
