This budget, signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis provides the diocese with funding that will support improvements to maintain a safe environment for the thousands of children, teens, and families who participate in summer camps, retreats, and other faith formation programs at Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp each year.  

Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp was founded in 1947 by Monsignor George W. Cummings. The camp focuses on striving to follow Jesus’ example and fostering growth of God-given talents and a deeper appreciation for creation. It is a camp where every child feels like they belong and can experience outdoor adventures coupled with the Catholic faith.

The effort to secure the state funding for this initiative was begun by Raegan Miller, a past camper at Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp and advanced through Senator Darryl Rouson, a St. Petersburg politician and alumnus of what is now St. Petersburg Catholic High School.

On July 28, 2026, Senator Rouson and Representative J.J. Grow presented a ceremonial check for $950,000 to Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp, with many present to celebrate this momentous occasion.

The Diocese of Saint Petersburg is grateful to Governor DeSantis, Senator Rouson, and the Florida Legislature for their support of this important investment in the safety and well-being of young people served by Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp.
