A New Era of Healthcare: OnMed CareStation Debuts at Tampa Hope Shelter

This morning [January 29, 2025], Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, the City of Tampa, Tampa General Hospital, OnMed and members of the community celebrated the launch of an OnMed CareStation at Tampa Hope (a Catholic Charities-run homeless shelter).

Together, they unveiled the launch of an OnMed CareStation, a significant step forward in providing accessible healthcare to those experiencing homelessness. At the event, Bishop Parkes gave a special blessing upon the OnMed CareStation, highlighting its importance as a source of healing and hope for the community.

The OnMed CareStation offers on-demand, high-quality healthcare services, including real-time consultations with licensed healthcare professionals through advanced telehealth technology. This innovative system allows Tampa Hope’s residents and employees to access essential medical care without leaving the shelter.

Tampa Hope, recognized as the first homeless shelter in the United States to feature an on-site OnMed CareStation, currently serves nearly 235 residents. In addition to healthcare, the shelter provides critical support services such as meals, clothing, transportation assistance, and mental and behavioral health resources.

This initiative accentuates a shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of Tampa’s most vulnerable populations. By integrating cutting-edge healthcare solutions into its already comprehensive services, Tampa Hope continues to set a powerful example of compassion and innovation.

The launch event highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing social challenges. Representatives from Catholic Charities and partnering organizations emphasized their dedication to ensuring that all individuals have access to dignified care and support.

As this new chapter unfolds, the collaboration between Catholic Charities, the City of Tampa, Tampa General Hospital, and OnMed stands as a testament to the transformative power of community partnerships in fostering dignity, hope, and healing.
