Catholic High Schools Go the Extra Mile

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Around Thanksgiving, many Catholic schools in our diocese participate in service opportunities to teach their students to give back in gratitude during the holiday season.

Some of our local Catholic High Schools went ‘the extra mile’, spending time, money, and resources to help their local communities.

SPCHS

The St. Petersburg Catholic High School community collected 22,581 cans and donated $8,505 to Day Star Life Center to support families in need, earning the students an incentive day off.

Tampa Catholic

Tampa Catholic High School students began Thanksgiving break with an advocacy sleepout to raise awareness about homelessness. Students also collected over 1,500 canned food items to restock the shelves at Feeding Tampa Bay.

CCC

Clearwater Central Catholic High School students, with the support of community members, donated more than 16,300 items to St. Vincent de Paul Cares, with the class of 2025 bringing in over 10,000 items as a class.

Jesuit

The Jesuit High School community, led by the director of community service, completed a large Thanksgiving fundraising event impacting 450 families. In total, they packaged and delivered 315 complete holiday meals to families from local Boys and Girls Clubs and the Migrant Education Program. Extra turkeys were shared with food banks and churches, and a check for $7,000 was given to Feeding Tampa Bay, which converted to 140 additional meals.

Did your school participate in a Thanksgiving service project, or do you have plans to complete one this holiday season? We’d love to hear about it! Share it with us at communicate@dosp.org.
