Religious Freedom Week encourages Catholics do their part to promote civility by recognizing the dignity of all people and inviting others to do the same.

As defenders of human life and dignity, which we hold sacred and inviolable from the moment of conception, we cannot accept unjust conditions on the right to migrate for those fleeing life-threatening situations.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection has released the 2023 Annual Report – Findings and Recommendations on the Implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.

It is on this day the Catholic Church observes the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Mariners and People of the Sea and highlights the ministry of Stella Maris (Star of the Sea), the apostolate of the Catholic Church for the people of the sea.

“The human right to health care flows from the sanctity of human life and the dignity that belongs to all human persons, who are made in the image of God."

This matter concerning the respect for human dignity and the fundamental value of human life is of grave importance to both our Church and our state. The threat of abortion remains our pre-eminent public policy priority.

“Florida Voters be warned: Amendment 4 would enshrine abortion through all trimesters in our state’s constitution and eliminate all laws that even modestly affect abortion."

Under the guise of limiting government interference, this extreme ballot initiative would legalize full-term abortion, including when the baby is capable of feeling pain.

“As Christians, we are rooted in the hope of the resurrection, and so we pray for a just and lasting peace in the Holy Land.” 

As the chairman of the Committee on International Justice and Peace for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop A. Elias Zaidan called for the U.S. government and the international community to address the challenges faced by Haiti.

On March 26, the Supreme Court of the United States will hear oral arguments in a case that has the potential to make a major impact in the widespread accessibility of chemical abortion (abortion pills).

Statement from the USCCB reminds us that human life remains gravely threatened by legalized abortion in most states.

“Religious freedom is enshrined in our Constitution in the First Amendment—and it is something so vital to the fabric of our country that it is often referred to as our ‘first freedom.’"

We must answer the call to respect human life, beginning with the unborn child.

As Catholics across the country gather again this year in Washington for the March for Life, they are also invited to observe a nationwide prayer vigil January 18-19 to pray for an end to abortion and a greater respect for all human life.

This is why the Catholic Church teaches that the practice of surrogacy is not morally permissible.
