Nearly 400 Medical Professionals Have Signed a Declaration Against Amendment 4

A group of medical professionals including dozens of OB/GYN’s, 50+ family medicine specialists, 40+ pediatricians, as well as doctors specializing in maternal fetal medicine, internists, and more are uniting against Amendment 4 that is severely out of step with how Florida doctors practice medicine.

“As a woman, mother and OBGYN, I’m tired of seeing the pro-abortion movement using women's health for political gain. This Amendment will bring more devastation to our women by allowing abortion at any time in pregnancy, for any reason and by someone who cannot even treat any of the potential complications leaving vulnerable women isolated and abandoned. Not good for anyone!,” said Dr. Ana M Verdeja, MD, a local doctor from Hillsborough County who signed the declaration.

The group has formed a coalition named Florida Physicians Against Amendment 4. These medical professionals are deeply concerned about Amendment 4, which would usher in a substandard of care, and undermine their ability to care for women and girls. As physicians who care for people of all demographics across the entire state, these physicians realize that their patients may have different views on access to abortion, but that most Floridians oppose the extreme policies of Amendment 4, which allow for abortion at any time in pregnancy, and do away with commonsense health and safety regulations that enhance women’s healthcare.

These doctors are concerned about many aspects of the amendment, including that Amendment 4 will permit non-physicians to determine when and if an abortion can be performed, even in late pregnancy, eliminate parental consent for minors, and remove common sense maternal health and safety regulations.
