How You Can Help Post-Hurricanes

The Diocese of St. Petersburg felt the effects of two hurricanes back to back. Hurricane Helene made landfall on September 26, 2024 in the "Big Bend" area of Florida, and Hurricane Milton made landfall on October 9, 2024 near Siesta Key, Florida.

Both of these hurricanes left devastation in their wake within the Diocese of St. Petersburg, resulting in much needed disaster relief, donations, volunteers, and prayer.

Disaster Relief Fund

The Disaster Relief Fund is an ongoing fund created by Bishop Gregory Parkes as a way to have money on hand for when disaster strikes. This allows for immediate response after disasters like hurricanes. In addition to taking yearly donations to this fund, additional contributions are requested after a disaster from those who are able to.

Donations

Many people have experienced devastating loss in the wake of the storms. Catholic Charities is coordinating with local parishes for supply collection to help those impacted. Keep an eye on their social media (CCharitiesDosp on Facebook and Instagram) for updates.

Contact your parish for more information on any supplies that may be needed.

Volunteer Opportunities

Many parishes are coordinating volunteer efforts to assist those in need within the community. Contact your parish for more information on volunteer efforts you can assist with.

Prayer

Please keep all those who have been affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton in your prayers in this time of recovery.

Most parishes are able to return to normal Mass schedules, however some that have received damage or are still without power have had to make adjustments. Please check with your local parish for their Mass times.
