The Diocese of Saint Petersburg is excited to announce the relaunch of the Instagram page dedicated to the diocesan magazine, Gulf Coast Catholic, and news website, GulfCoastCatholic.org.
The page, under the handle @GulfCoastCatholic, will offer behind-the-scenes videos, photos, and exclusive content, featuring the stories on both the digital platform and the print edition of the magazine.
The relaunch of @GulfCoastCatholic signifies an expanded reach in content evangelization and marks a renewed commitment to the Gulf Coast Catholic mission: to unite, inform, and inspire the local Catholic community.
Bishop Gregory Parkes announced the launch of Gulf Coast Catholic, a news and lifestyle website created by the Diocese of St. Petersburg August 14, 2021, the feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe who is the patron saint of journalists. Bishop Parkes selected the name of the site and is the publisher.
Two years later, he announced the debut of Gulf Coast Catholic magazine.
“It is my hope that it will be another important resource to help us grow in our own personal faith, and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to others. The magazine will include stories and features about the good things that are happening in our diocese. It will highlight ministries that truly touch and change people’s lives, help us to grow in the understanding of our faith, and highlight real people with inspirational life experiences,” he wrote August 25, 2024, in a letter announcing the launch.
The magazine is mailed quarterly to nearly 100,000 households in the five counties of the diocese: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco counties.
The Instagram page is designed to connect with young Catholics and those exploring their faith, offering an alternative to the secular content often found on social media. The goal is to be a positive force, disrupting typical algorithms with faith-centered Good News. To celebrate the relaunch on April 1, 2025, an exclusive video by Father Connor Penn from St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lutz was posted to the page.
Everyone is invited to be part of this online community, where each story presented is designed to strengthen personal faith and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ as we Courageously Live the Gospel.
