The experience became a journey of faith, personal growth, and cultural discovery that has left a lasting impact on my life.

Throughout the eleven-day pilgrimage, we visited some of Spain's most iconic cities, prayed in centuries-old churches and cathedrals, and shared unforgettable experiences. As I am thinking about each day, I have come to realize the impact of the experience on me personally. My skills as an athlete are stronger but more important, so is my relationship with God.

Our journey began in Barcelona with a visit to the Sagrada Familia. Walking into the basilica for the first time was breathtaking. Standing under the massive ceilings reminded me that faith has inspired many beautiful works of art and structures throughout history. It was the perfect beginning to our journey and set the tone for the incredible adventures that would follow.

From Barcelona, we traveled to Valencia, where we played our first international game in Spain. Playing the sport we love in another country was an unforgettable experience for our team. The game allowed us to connect with players from another culture through our shared love of lacrosse. It reminded me that sports can bring people together, even when they come from completely different backgrounds.

In Valencia, we also visited the Church of Saint Augustine and the historic Valencia Cathedral, home to the Holy Grail. Walking through these sacred landmarks gave me a deeper appreciation for the rich Catholic heritage of Spain. Seeing churches that have welcomed generations of the faithful reminded me of the importance of our faith far beyond our own parish or community. We are part of a universal Church with traditions that have been around for centuries, and experiencing these things firsthand further strengthened my appreciation for the Catholic faith.

Our next destination was Madrid, where we visited the beautiful Almudena Cathedral before another evening of lacrosse. I began to notice the connection between faith and athletics. Success on the field requires commitment, humility, teamwork, and perseverance, qualities that are also significant teachings of the Catholic Church. Also, it was heartwarming that the opposing team was very welcoming and sincerely interested in establishing a bond with players from another country.

One of the most spiritually significant moments of the trip came during our visit to Oviedo and the Shrine of Our Lady of Covadonga. The serenity of the shrine was unlike

anything I had ever experienced. From the moment I entered, I felt an overwhelming sense of calm and peace that is difficult to put into words. Surrounded by the beauty of the mountains and the sacredness of the shrine, I found myself slowing down and taking in the moment. I truly believe it would be difficult to find a place that left a deeper spiritual impression. The experience is a reminder of the importance of making time for prayer, reflection, and simply being present with God.

Our pilgrimage reached its high point in Santiago de Compostela, one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the Catholic world. Visiting the Cathedral of Santiago, where countless pilgrims have concluded their journeys for centuries, was a truly humbling experience. Even though I did not complete the entire Camino de Santiago, simply walking through the historic city allowed me to appreciate the dedication and faith of those who have traveled there throughout history. Later that evening, witnessing the Festival of Saint James fireworks provided a joyful celebration of faith, culture, and community that I will always remember.

While the churches and historic sites made a great spiritual impression, the people I shared the journey with made the trip more meaningful. Traveling with my teammates strengthened friendships that had already been built through years of practices and games. We supported one another through long travel days and represented our school with pride both on and off the field. Those shared moments reminded me that God often works through the relationships we build with others.

As I reflect on our journey, I am grateful for every new experience. Spain provided the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the universal Church and to grow as both an athlete and a young Catholic. The magnificent cathedrals, sacred pilgrimage sites, and moments of quiet prayer deepened my faith, while the challenges and camaraderie of lacrosse shaped my character. I returned home with unforgettable memories, lifelong friendships, and a renewed understanding of my faith.
