It’s the place to catch a Broadway show such as Hamilton or Les Misérables. But on Friday, May 10th, the Straz Center will be the place to experience a uniquely Catholic event with a stellar line-up of speakers, including a cardinal, a bishop, a religious sister and a Catholic radio personality. Plus, Catholic musicians known for contemporary praise and worship will perform.
The event is known as Roar of the Rosary – and it’s the first of its kind. The idea was dreamed up by Tony Scarpo, a local Catholic who has a passion for helping young adults discover or deepen their Catholic faith.
“We are hoping to bring back the youth that are possibly leaving our faith or are concerned about their faith and we're going to do it in a central way,” said Scarpo.
The choice of a secular venue in a growing area of Tampa where thousands of young adults regularly spend time was intentional. Also, the tickets are available for free thanks to local benefactors, such as Scarpo. This is a way to attract young adults who may have tight budgets. The value of each ticket is over $100.
“We especially want those that have questioned their faith or have drifted away, we are hoping that they come. But really and truly, it's open to anyone who wants to participate in this amazing event,” said Scarpo.
The experience includes a Eucharistic and Rosary Procession. A large monstrance will be carried from the Straz to the Riverwalk and then carried onto a boat to proceed along the Hillsborough River. Everyone along the Riverwalk will be able to adore Jesus and reverence his most holy Presence in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Roar of the Rosary is sponsored in part by Legatus Tampa Bay, Scarpo Family, Hyer Family, Young Catholic Professionals, FOCUS, Saint Paul’s Outreach, and Spirit FM 90.5.
