Bishop Parkes Calls on Catholics to Be a Light for Life

October is Respect Life Month

Jesus is the Light of the World, and we are called to imitate Jesus by bringing the light of our faith to the culture.

During October in particular, the Church calls on Catholics to renew their commitment to the legal protection of human life from conception to natural death, and to extend compassion to those facing a crisis pregnancy or suffering from participation in abortion.

In October, we commemorate Respect Life Month throughout the United States and October 6th is Respect Life Sunday. In Florida, some of our protestant brothers and sisters will be observing “Protect Life Sunday,” on October 6th. On this day, churches throughout the state will urge their communities to vote *no* on Amendment 4, an extreme, deceptive, and dangerous proposal that will jeopardize the lives of innocent unborn children and their mothers.  That is why over 400 doctors and medical professionals have signed a declaration against Amendment 4.

Our faith calls us to protect the least, the lost, and the last. The most vulnerable among us are babies in the womb. If life cannot be guaranteed at this most vulnerable stage, what guarantee is there that life will be protected at any stage?

Please pray with me that all children in the womb may be protected in law and welcomed in love.
