Bishop Gregory Parkes will dedicate and bless a newly constructed altar at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. To consecrate means to set apart for a sacred or holy purpose. The dedication and consecration of the altar is an historical event for Our Lady of Grace Parish because it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the parish.
The new altar is part of an extensive renovation project that began 15 months ago. In addition to a new altar, new pews and other improvements, the church added a new crucifix nearly three times the size of the previous one. The corpus, or image of Jesus on the cross was imported from the Philippines, but the wooden cross was donated by a local resident.
Per Catholic tradition, the altar will be anointed, incensed, and covered this Sunday, as it becomes the focal point of worship, where the faithful encounter Jesus in his death and Resurrection.
