Volunteers of the The Bautista Project, Inc. visited Tampa Hope, one of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg's homeless shelters.
This wonderful organization provides "basic living essentials, educational resources, support groups, and other necessary resources to assist homeless community members with reintegration" as "contributing members of society."
According to co-founder and CEO, Marla Bautista, "in America, homelessness is treated as an out-of-sight, out-of-mind issue, and only when the issue is in plain sight, do we want to deal with it...and that's wrong."
Regarding the homeless community members, Bautista states, "They are our family, they are our friends or neighbors, and their stories matter."
We at Catholic Charities value our supporters and community partners. Our shelters, including Tampa Hope, partner with other groups - faith-based, government, nonprofits, social service agencies, health care agencies, corporations, etc. - to provide the 360-degree services our homeless clients need to succeed.
On this day, we decided to give our clients a break from filming. They agree to these intrusions into their lives as they know it helps them and future clients by driving awareness of homelessness so other community members - like the Bautista Project - learn about Tampa Hope to help them.
