Help is on the Way for Homeowners
Father Carlos Rojas, pastor of St. Rita Catholic Church, has already spent several days going door-to-door with a team of volunteers trimming fallen trees and removing debris. Now he is organizing an event to bring even more relief to people in need in Pasco County. Just in time for Thanksgiving.
What:
Muck and Gut Event to assist vulnerable adults in Pasco County whose homes have been damaged by the recent hurricanes.
When:
Saturday, November 23rd, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where:
Meeting Point, St. Rita Catholic Church, 14404 14th St., Dade City
Volunteers will meet at the church for orientation and training. Then, they will go to nearby homes and assist with gutting and mucking, the initial stage of rebuilding a structure after a disaster, such as a flood.
Father Rojas and other parish leaders are being trained on house gutting by the Disaster Relief Organization “Cajun Army.” Father Rojas knows firsthand the trauma that a flooded or damaged house can cause. His elderly parents and disabled sister had their homes flooded during Hurricane Helene. The church’s efforts to reach out and assist vulnerable adults since the storm is an amazing demonstration of collaboration, compassion, and faith!
