Upcoming Retreat Seeks to Inspire during the Advent Season

As Christmas gets closer, the holiday hustle begins. But St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Spring Hill has an opportunity for local Catholics to savor the season of Advent at a retreat on Saturday, December 6.

“In our culture, Advent can get lost among—or, at least, confused with—secular celebrations of the holiday season,” said Father Alex Padilla, pastor of St. Frances Cabrini. “Therefore, I believe that it is important to give ourselves the opportunity to dedicate time to preparing ourselves for Christmas during the unique liturgical season of Advent.”

The retreat will be led by Catholic speaker Michael “Gomer” Gormley, who—along with his friend Luke Carey—cohosts popular Catholic podcast Catching Foxes. After the retreat, there’s an optional dinner, and after dinner, Gomer and Luke will host a live recording of an episode of their show.

“We’re excited to have someone as important as Gomer and Luke coming here to Spring Hill,” Father Padilla said. “The juxtaposition of a deeply spiritual retreat with a very fun podcast recording is going to be just what we need to prepare our hearts and souls this Advent.”

The retreat is at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in Xavier Hall at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. An optional dinner follows at 6 p.m., followed by the podcast recording. There is no cost.
