United in Faith and Fellowship

The Catholic Indonesian Community of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, also known as Keluarga Katolic Indonesian (KKI), gathered at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Tampa on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, to celebrate their quarterly Mass, the New Lunar Year, and St. Valentine’s Day.

The Mass, celebrated in Indonesian, was presided by Father Agustinus Seran, S.V.D., pastor of St. Peter Claver.

Over 100 faithful from across the Diocese of Saint Petersburg and the Diocese of Orlando gathered for the celebration, during which new board leaders for the community were appointed by Father Seran. The new leadership will serve the KKI community by coordinating their events and accompanying one another.

Fithrie Augustine-Hum, the new president, shared her gratitude and excitement to walk with the community. Some of her initiatives include encouraging KKI youth to engage more in their faith and culture. She also aims to utilize all available resources to improve communication among members and work in collaboration with the Office of Intercultural Ministries to build stronger connections between the Diocese and the Catholic Indonesian Community.

The celebration ended with a time of fellowship featuring various Chinese and Indonesian dishes. The elders shared their good wishes with the younger generations as is the tradition for the New Lunar Year.

The KKI has been active in our Diocese since the early 2000’s and is connected to other KKI communities in dioceses throughout the United States and Canada. Members gather as a community to pray the Rosary, share meals, celebrate Mass and other special occasions such as blessings of homes and birthdays. Today, the KKI community continues to cherish their mission to preserve and pass along their Catholic faith and Indonesian culture to future generations as they continue to serve Christ and others.

A retreat titled “Christian Life in Prayer, Sacraments, and Community” is planned for April 17-19, 2026, at the St. Stephen Christian Retreat & Conference Center in Titusville, Florida in collaboration with KKI communities from the Diocese of Orlando and the Diocese of Palm Beach.
