Every weekday, the Spirit FM 90.5 Morning Show, hosted by Davis and Maria, brings listeners uplifting music and messages of hope, joy, and faith to listeners across the Diocese of Saint Petersburg and online.
Since joining in 2008, Davis has become a familiar voice and serves as Program Director. Maria, his co-host, recently celebrated her first year on the team.
The show connects with families and individuals as they go about their day-to-day lives, whether they're starting their day at home, on their morning school run, or in classrooms where it plays before lessons begin. One listener, Tina, says she and her daughter hop in the car and tune in to Spirit FM as they head to school every morning. She says that for her, it’s more than just something to pass the time; it’s a source of joy, affirmation, and bonding.
“Spirit FM is helping to raise my daughter and my spirits daily,” she said.
The topics Davis and Maria delve into reflect the very values Tina says she strives to teach at home, reinforcing important lessons in a relatable, uplifting way.
“Whether you’re dropping the kids off at school, commuting to work, or sipping your morning coffee, you’re invited to be part of something more than just a radio show,” said Davis.
And the joy? That’s part of the magic.
“Whether it’s lighthearted segments like This or That or The Impossible Question, we try to encourage fun, laughter, and connections with our audience bright and early and hope to turn people’s ordinary drives or tasks into meaningful moments,” said Maria.
The Spirit FM Morning Show also strives to bring faith, positivity, and connection directly into schools and classrooms like the 7B classroom at St. Lawrence Catholic School, where the show is played to students before class begins.
“Spirit FM has impacted our classroom in a positive way. It has helped develop better relationships with our classmates. We’ve learned things about each other we never knew we had in common. We have also gotten to know our friends better. This or That has shown us that we can build new friendships through this morning activity,” said Liam, a 7th grade student at the school.
“It’s a fun way for my homeroom to engage in discussion before we head to Mass. They miss it when it’s not available. Watching them listen to their shoutouts and recordings on the Morning Show was a highlight of the year,” said Ms. Jenny Nansel, a 7th grade teacher at the school.
Spirit FM 90.5 is the official broadcast ministry of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg. In addition to serving as the radio ministry of the Diocese, Spirit FM also serves the entire listening community as part of its evangelization mission. Davis, Maria, and other announcers go beyond the airwaves to actively participate in the community, often hosting events at Catholic schools and parishes, and organizing concerts and conferences.
To continue and grow the ministry, there are plans for an upcoming concert to celebrate the station’s 40th anniversary, an endowment campaign to ensure its future, a pilgrimage to Rome, live Masses celebrated and broadcasted from within the studio, and participation and promotion of the diocese’s 1,000,000 Acts of Mercy Challenge.
“Join Davis and me every weekday morning as we pray with you, laugh alongside you, and walk through life together, always pointing back to Jesus,” said Maria.
“With faith at the center, plenty of joy, and stories that feel like home, the Spirit FM Morning Show isn’t just how you start your day, it’s how you stay grounded in what matters most. Come be a part of the Spirit FM family. We’re saving you a seat.”
