Catholic Charities has teamed up with Pinellas County and the Diocese of St. Petersburg to create a temporary shelter at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Clearwater.
Beginning Friday, October 11th, Pinellas Hope’s homeless clients are being relocated from their designated Hurricane Milton evacuation center to St. Catherine of Siena. Pinellas County’s Human Services Department, led by Director Karen Yatchum, is providing the following assistance:
• Transportation from the evacuation center to the new temporary shelter
• Shower and Laundry Trailers
• Portable toilet facilities
Maggie Rogers, Executive Director of Catholic Charities, said, “We are grateful to our partnership with Pinellas County. Karen and her team have come through during an extremely intense time.” Catholic Charities will relocate staff to provide the same 24/7 services to the clients. Rev. Msgr. Robert Morris, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena, said, “During these extraordinary times, our call to serve is more critical than ever. We were happy we could accommodate Catholic Charities’ request. Our mission is help reduce homelessness and housing instability, Pinellas Hope is an important tool helping us achieve that goal. We are pleased to be able to support Catholic Charities as the shelter recovers from back-to-back hurricanes.”
