The Holiest of Days

The road that we walk with Jesus this week is not easy. It will lead us to the upper room, to the Garden of Gethsemane, to the judgment of Pilate, and to Calvary, but it will also lead to the empty tomb on Easter morning. Holy Week is not a time to be passive observers. It's an invitation to actively walk with the Lord in His passion.

It's an opportunity to unite our own sufferings with His, to offer our hearts to the one who gave everything for us. The liturgies of this week, the Chrism mass, the Mass of the Lord's Supper, the Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, are not mere rituals. Rather, they are encounters with the living God who loved us even unto death.

So let us enter this week with hearts open and attentive. Let us allow the mystery of Christ's passion to shape our lives, to renew our faith, and to prepare us for the joy of Easter. May our Hosannas on our lips today guide the way we live, love, and celebrate this Holy Week. Amen.

This is an excerpt from a homily given on Palm Sunday by Bishop Gregory Parkes that focuses on the days leading up to Easter, the holiest of days.
