Five Men Are One Step Closer to Becoming Deacons

On October 13, 2026, five men preparing for the permanent diaconate participated in the Rite of Candidacy. Candidacy is the formal intermediate stage before their ordination.

During this liturgy, the men stated their intention to receive Holy Orders and Bishop Gregory Parkes accepted them. This final stage is a period of continued discernment and study as they prepare for ordination in 2027.

“This evening is a moment of grace, a moment of discernment, and a moment of commitment,” said Bishop Parkes in his homily. “As we celebrate the right of candidacy with you, our candidates, we gather not only to recognize your calling, but to acknowledge the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who have generously responded to God’s invitation to serve him and his people.”
