Carlo Acutis – the Power of a Teen Saint

Inspired by Bishop Parkes’ introduction of Carlo Acutis to school children during visits in 2024, Father Bob Romaine made it a point to continue to spread the message of the young saint-to-be to members of his parishes.

While at Holy Family Parish in St. Petersburg, Father Romaine organized and led a revival team, who focused one presentation on the young saint-to-be. Following the Bishop’s lead, Father Romaine distributed bracelets to adults in the parish, as well as children.

At Father Romaine’s new assignment at Sacred Heart Parish in Dade City, following his attendance at the National Eucharistic Congress, he was even more determined to bring education and inspiration to his new parish. And, after learning that Carlo Acutis was scheduled to be canonized in late April 2025, he wanted to bring the gift of this millennial’s faith to his new parish.

Sacred Heart Parish in Dade City concluded a weekend focusing on this new millennial saint with the presence of a relic of young Carlo (on loan from Bishop Parkes) and an exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles (loaned by Christ the King Parish). The Eucharistic Miracles exhibit included panels such as the ones that young Carlo Acutis had produced during his young life. During the weekend of March 1 and 2, members of Sacred Heart Parish had an opportunity to venerate the relic of the young saint-to-be, learn about his brief, but impactful life and review the displays of Eucharistic Miracles in the parish center. As the Bishop had done when he “introduced” Carlo Acutis to children in the Diocese, Father Romaine distributed bracelets to the parish (both adults and children) with the words “The Eucharist is my Highway to Heaven” inscribed.

The weekend concluded with a presentation by Father Romaine on the life and focus of young Carlo, with summaries of Carlo’s sayings, including profound thoughts that young and old alike can learn from. The talk focusing on Carlo Acutis was concluded with a brief summary of the American Saints (and saints in waiting) and the Church’s process of canonization of saints. Parishioners were then encouraged to watch the canonization Mass for Carlo Acutis on Sunday, April 27 before attending Mass themselves.

The life and example of Carlo Acutis has touched individuals, especially children, in other states and in Puerto Rico where the bracelets have been distributed. Recently, a parishioner at Holy Family Parish (where Father Romaine was previously assigned) took the bracelets to Pampanga, Philippines, and distributed the bracelets to adults and children there. Carlo may have only lived fifteen years, but his message of hope and devotion to the Eucharist continues to spread. Carlo Acutis is currently scheduled to be canonized in Rome on April 27, 2025.
